Sam and Lucy’s wedding day at Margam Orangery, well, it ( to no fault of their own ) started off a bit…. windy. The morning of the wedding saw gale force winds, closing the m4, blocking roads with fallen trees and delaying the wedding ceremony by nearly an hour while the gusts and registra were stuck in traffic. Luckily, Jon was with Sam who was getting ready on site at the ….. while Chantele was with Lucy at Court Coleman, so if the proverbial hit the fan, at least one of us was there to document the ceremony.
So fast forward guests trickling in, the registra making it and Lucy somehow having the BEST taxi driver in South Wales, beating Chantele by 15 mins, we made it to the ceremony!
Margam is another local venue that we love. We spend a lot of time in the gorgeous grounds with our little ones, and it makes the perfect backdrop for family sessions. From the obviously impressive Margam Castle at the top of the hill, right down to the walled gardens at the bottom, theres so much to choose from for photo locations you could get lost in its magic for hours.
The Orangery gives you a huge space to work with, its massive windows to bring the outside in with oodles of natural light filling the space, and enough room for everyone to spread out and mingle while not being on top of each other. Imagine standing at the entrance door and looking down the aisle, chandeliers towering over you, the sun shining in through the windows with a path laid out in front for you to take you to your person, your “the one”, how exciting, how dramatic. Lets face it too, not only is the venue stunning but when you choose a supplier like Elyn Boutique to dress it, it looks absolutely incredible in those autumnal colours.
So, we get to the ceremony, Lucy is waiting nervously at the top and Sam, well he’s been waiting at the bottom for a while now but we are all systems go! Then just like that they’re married! Another walk down the aisle but this time together as husband and wife, straight outside to get that big group shot and confetti before it rains as its threatening to. We did get a little wet, but all in the name of capturing memories.
One of the big tick list items for photos was a trip up to the Margam Castle, so while guests made their way inside for drinks and canapés, we jumped in the car and headed right up. Built between 1830 and 1840, the castle has the most amazing stair case with a view from the bottom floor right up to the roof. Its the most regal setting you could think of for wedding portraits and let’s face it, Sam and Lucy don’t half look the part, like a royal wedding photo shoot for a magazine ( if i do say so myself ).
The rest of the day was just perfect. A gorgeous wedding meal, beautiful words exchanged for speeches before moving right into the evening party with a few loose ties, and belts. We had to finish off the gallery with some cool flash lit images under the arches. Something funky to end the set is kinda what we are known for. We grabbed some colours for the lights to compliment the wedding theme of autumn tones, set up using each-other as models and brought everyone out for a kick ass sparkler shot, finishing off with some shots of Sam and Lucy on their own. Quite possibly some of our favourite night shots we’ve done at the Margam Orangery to date.
